It’s a true San Francisco institution. When we first opened in 1943, we were the first and only farmers market in California. We played a key role in starting the farmers market movement in the state. We're proud of our strong connections with local farmers. Many sellers come from family farms that have worked with us for generations. Since February 2026, local nonprofit Foodwise operates Alemany Farmers Market, bringing over 30 years of experience championing an equitable and sustainable Bay Area community through farmers markets and education programs.
